HANDBUILDING CLASSES

Nature
Mountains

These beginners hand building classes will introduce you to working with clay off the wheel.

With a maximum of 6 people in each class, you will focus on learning different techniques used for building objects by hand – pinching, coiling or slab work. You will have an opportunity to explore what these techniques offer either individually or in combination to build an item of your choice.

In this 2 hour workshop you will have a choice of two clay bodies – white or a buff coloured groggy – to make your piece/s with – samples are available to help you decide.

What will you make? Some ideas to think about are either a cup/mug, vase or similar small object. You will learn the basic fundamentals of pinch pots, coiling or slab building.

As an added bonus, you will be gifted a beginner’s 8 piece tool set to take home with you.

This is truly a “focussed on you” experience where you can leave with a finished piece. If time allows and weather dependent (clay takes longer to dry in the cold air) you will have the opportunity to paint your piece/s with slip for decoration (black or white available) and then all you have to do is decide whether to leave your piece/s with me to fire rendering them functional, food safe and waterproof or take them with you as airdry pieces.

Note- air dry is not vitirified, it is neither waterproof nor food safe and will deteriorate with time.

Cost $110.00 – this includes glazing* & firing your piece max 2kg – more than 2kg will be charged at $15.00 p.kg
